Row by Row Experience introduces the Postcard Party. As a participating shop, Quilt 'n Go will be hosting their kick-off celebration on Saturday, November 29th from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm to introduce the event. Members of the Cal-Co Quilters Guild will be available to demonstrate postcard making techniques and provide suggestions on assembling fabric post cards.
Barbara Williams and Irene Gilbert, Cal-Co Guild members and avid postcard collectors will be bring samples of the postcards created by them and their members. They will be conducting sessions, that will start on the hour, to share their experiences and answer any questions on this creative activity.
The postcard group members, who will be celebrating their fifth anniversary in January, started meeting at Quilt 'n Go. Each member was to create and mail their postcard by the first Saturday of each month. Then on the second Saturday of each month, the group would meet to do 'show and tell' with the post cards that they've received. The group now meets at Lux Cafe on Capital Avenue from 10:00 - 12:00 noon.
Over the years, the members have compiled a list of suggestions to make sending postcards through the US mail more successful:
1. Use card stock (or file folder) as basis for postcard.
2. Keep finished postcard no thicker than 1/4 inch.
3. Use a regular forever stamp.
4. Adding embellishments may necessitate the card be hand cancelled and hand canceling may add an extra 20 cents to mail the card.
5. Determining actual charge to mail each card maybe "at the discretion of the postal employee accepting the postcard to be mailed."
If you like the idea of exchanging post cards with friends (or new friends) but you aren't sure about the specifications for mailing, we have the solution for you!! The Postcard Party Kit requires you to make the block 6" x 7", iron it on the provided foundation, fill in the back with a message and your address and bring it to Quilt N Go before January 15! Embellishments won't cause any problems since these don't actually go into the mail. They will be forwarded to "Post Card Central". For each card sent by Quilt N Go quilters, a card from another state will be returned. We will have Mail Call in March. What fun to receive a quilted postcard and a message from another quilter out of state! Each state has a unique back. Michigan's card features a robin, apple blossoms and light houses. I wonder who will receive a card from the furthest away??
Come and join us for the demonstrations and to pick up a postcard packet so that you can participate in the Postcard Party exchange!
