When Fall starts to come around, the kids have to start thinking about going back to class. But they aren't the only ones. You can start thinking about taking a class with us! We are offering Free Motion Quilting class that will be on August 26th from 1:00-4:00. And if none that class isn't what you're looking for or just doesn't work with your schedule then just stay tuned because we are in the process of thinking and planning more classes! We would love to hear what you would like as a class.
I'm sure you have heard about the Farm Girl Vintage show and tell on the second Wednesday of each month. And if not then let me tell you. Every second Wednesday the ladies in the Farm Girl Vintage block of the month group meet here and show and tell about what they have been working on. They can show the blocks they have finished from the group or they can choose to show and tell something else they have been working on. These ladies also get a sticker on their report card when they come to the meeting and show something of theirs. Once the block of the month is over they can turn in their report card and the number of stickers they have determines the prize they receive. These meetings help others get inspiration for future projects or can help motivate them to finish their blocks or other project they are working on. Sadly this block of the month group is almost over but we are all excited to see everyone's finished quilt.
With most patterns now they come on big pieces of paper and sometimes there is more than one piece of paper! And sometimes when the patterns are that long they can tend to go on and on instead of getting straight to the point. That can get frustrating when you just want to know what you have to do and be able to do it. Well someone must have felt the same way because they made new patterns that are only the size of a 4X6 photo! Now you might be thinking if it's that small then the print must be tiny. That's what is nice about these patterns, the directions are a very readable print and are very clear and easy to follow. The patterns even have pictures to help you out. These pocket size patterns are simple and easy but look like they took a lot of time. They are also organized by the fabric requirements: fat quarters, 2 1/2 inch strips, and charms. There are so many to choose from and the best part is they are only $2.50 so if you can't choose you don't have to - You can buy them all!
Since March people have been picking up four blocks every month for Farm Girl Vintage. And every 2nd Wednesday they meet to do show and tell. If they show their blocks or any other project they have been working on they get a sticker on their report card. They can turn in their report card once the club is over and the amount of stickers they have on their card determines what prize they receive.
These are some of the things they have shown and told us about at this last meeting:
You may enjoy doing large projects but sometimes you just need a break from the big ones. But if you're addicted to sewing like most of us are then the thought of not sewing maybe scare you. Or if your a beginner and most projects are too overwhelming for you then stress no more! We just recently got "Petite Quilts" from Thimble N Thread. The petite quilts are perfect if you are a beginner looking for your next project or if you are just in between projects and are looking for something to do in between. The kits are already packaged with all the fabric you will need to get the job done. The finished project is approximately 18"X20" but they vary depending on which kit you choose. That also means that its small enough to use a fat quarter as the backing. The kits that we have include "Little Blue Bird" , " and "Thimble N Thread". (more coming) These petite quilts are perfect to use as wall hangings or as table toppers too!
Tuesday marks the start of Row by Row! Are you as excited as we are?! if you have stopped into the store recently, you have probably seen our row already. If you're like me, you probably know the pain of burning your fingers on the iron or hot glue all too well. When you're trying to do small little projects its very hard to not burn yourself. Or if your lucky and haven't burnt yourself with the iron or a hot glue gun then I'm sure you've poked yourself with a needle while sewing. And if you haven't then that's pretty amazing and I would like to know how you do it! But I'm sure that the majority of us have not been as lucky. No matter how hard we try to be careful we still end up hurting ourselves. Thankfully someone realized our pain and made something to help us out. They're called Thermal Finger Guards. These cute little rubber things fit on the tips of your fingers. With them on you can accidentally get your fingers with the iron or the hot glue gun and you won't feel a thing! You can even wear them as a thimble too! Finally something that will save your poor fingers from your clumsiness with the iron or hot glue gun. And if you have sausage fingers or thin fingers they will fit any size. They come in red, purple, blue, orange and lime green. They come in a pack of three so three of your fingers can feel safe. So save your fingers and make them feel safe by coming and checking these guys out!
