My name is Melinda Anstead and I am pleased to be working at Quilt ‘N Go as a sales clerk.  I started sewing as a young girl and my first formal classes were at the high school during the summer between 7th and 8th grade.  All through high school, I made my own uniforms and dresses.  My skills were put to use later making clothing for my five daughters.  My only son was treated to one-of-a-kind boxer shorts!

My interest in quilting started over 30 years ago and I bought a few books and saved all the free patterns I could find.  My first quilt was a patchwork of scraps I had saved from years of making clothes.  My oldest daughter, who was about 12 at the time, helped with the project and her daughter still has the quilt all these years later.

When my husband and I moved to Vicksburg just over five years ago, my goal was to finally learn “real” quilting.  I took a few lessons to learn the tips and techniques I needed and before long, I had made some beautiful quilts.  I was able to purchase a longarm machine a few years ago and my love of quilting grew to a new level. You can bring your quilts to me at QNG.

Learning to quilt had been a dream for so long and now it is my reality.  I’ve been able to be involved in a charity project by helping to complete quilts, as well as make many quilts for my family.  I have met some wonderful quilters and friends who share my passion and I look forward to many, many years of quilting.

Farm Girl Vintage July Show and Tell

clock July 29, 2016 08:34 by author Madison

I'm sure you have heard about the Farm Girl Vintage show and tell on the second Wednesday of each month. And if not then let me tell you. Every second Wednesday the ladies in the Farm Girl Vintage block of the month group meet here and show and tell about what they have been working on. They can show the blocks they have finished from the group or they can choose to show and tell something else they have been working on. These ladies also get a sticker on their report card when they come to the meeting and show something of theirs. Once the block of the month is over they can turn in their report card and the number of stickers they have determines the prize they receive. These meetings help others get inspiration for future projects or can help motivate them to finish their blocks or other project they are working on. Sadly this block of the month group is almost over but we are all excited to see everyone's finished quilt.

Fun Sized Patterns

clock July 28, 2016 08:35 by author Madison

With most patterns now they come on big pieces of paper and sometimes there is more than one piece of paper! And sometimes when the patterns are that long they can tend to go on and on instead of getting straight to the point. That can get frustrating when you just want to know what you have to do and be able to do it. Well someone must have felt the same way because they made new patterns that are only the size of a 4X6 photo! Now you might be thinking if it's that small then the print must be tiny. That's what is nice about these patterns, the directions are a very readable print and are very clear and easy to follow. The patterns even have pictures to help you out. These pocket size patterns are simple and easy but look like they took a lot of time. They are also organized by the fabric requirements: fat quarters, 2 1/2 inch strips, and charms. There are so many to choose from and the best part is they are only $2.50 so if you can't choose you don't have to - You can buy them all!

Farm Girl Vintage Club

clock July 15, 2016 09:28 by author Madison

Since March people have been picking up four blocks every month for Farm Girl Vintage. And every 2nd Wednesday they meet to do show and tell. If they show their blocks or any other project they have been working on they get a sticker on their report card. They can turn in their report card once the club is over and the amount of stickers they have on their card determines what prize they receive.

These are some of the things they have shown and told us about at this last meeting:
